Our 1st in-house maintenance at Brogle

Even though mechanical watches are known for their longevity, values such as water resistance and accuracy can only be maintained at the level of a new watch with professional maintenance.

Normally, several hundred euros are charged for servicing a mechanical watch. At Brogle, the first in-house service is included with the purchase of your automatic or hand-wound watch. Comprehensive servicing in our modern watchmaking workshop includes the following steps:

Gear check

High-quality automatic watches show only minimal rate deviations in the single-digit second range per day. However, rate accuracy is influenced by external factors. These include not only wearing habits but also physical parameters such as temperature fluctuations. These factors multiply over time, which can lead to larger rate deviations. With the help of a timing scale, the smallest rate deviations are detected during the rate check and with this electronic device, the beats of the movement are recorded with a special microphone or recognized by vibrations and compared with a standardized frequency. By removing the movement and checking individual, important components, the rate can be set to the exact time again. The precise adjustment of the clocking element of an automatic watch, the so-called escapement, is particularly important here.

Watertightness test

The sealing material that protects the case from the effects of water can also be affected by external factors such as temperature and chemicals. Depending on how often the watch is used near water or in water, the water resistance should also be checked regularly. During in-house maintenance, all watches that are water-resistant up to 10 bar are checked for seals that are not fully functional.

Cleaning

The exterior of the watches is given an all-round care by our experts. Among other things, the case is refurbished as best as possible and the bracelet is maintained. By treating the watch carefully and properly, minor scratches can be removed from the watch case, depending on the material and extent.

Final check

Once the watch has been reassembled and closed, it is subjected to a final check. The watch is placed on a Watch winder for five days and its functionality is carefully checked

After maintenance, your watch will once again almost meet the standards of a new watch at the relevant measuring points.
